Planning Tips from a Whitefish Wedding Photographer

As a Whitefish wedding photographer, I’ve seen firsthand how much smoother the day goes when you hire local vendors who know the area well. Here are a few planning tips:

  • Visit beforehand if you can – Come during the season you’re considering. Walk the venues, meet your vendors, explore town.
  • Lean into the natural beauty – You don’t need much decor when the scenery is this good.
  • Hire a planner familiar with Montana weddings – Someone local will understand logistics like weather, permits, and seasonal quirks.
  • Book a local photographer (hi 👋) – I know the light, the angles, the views—and how to capture all the in-between moments, too.

Featured Wedding Feature: Loren + Joe

One of my favorite Whitefish weddings to date? Loren and Joe’s intimate celebration, nestled high on Whitefish Mountain.

These two are transplant nurses from UAB, and their love story is just as sweet as they are. They got ready at a cozy VRBO tucked into the trees—with gorgeous morning light and views that stretched all the way across the valley.

Loren wore blue Tecova boots (branded, of course) for her something blue, which was such a fun and meaningful detail. Her style was relaxed yet elevated—Montana chic in the best way. Their ceremony was intimate, heartfelt, and wrapped in the peaceful stillness of the mountain air.

We caught golden hour portraits with the mountains in the background and ended the night under string lights and stars. It was one of those days where everything just felt… effortless. Authentic, beautiful, and uniquely them.
