Winter in Glacier National Park lasts from November to April; it is a magical time to visit the park. The lake typically is somewhat frozen, and there is deep snow around the lake and within the trees. The quiet surroundings and white snow blanket create an intimate atmosphere that is perfect for capturing romantic moments. However, it’s crucial to keep in mind that temperatures during winter can range from -10 to 30 degrees, and the wind off the lake can be bitterly cold. To ensure you have a great experience, dress warmly, layer, layer, layer! I suggest sticking with earthy-toned clothing and adding some texture. Beanies are a cute and practical accessory that can add a stylish touch to your look. Taller boots are also recommended to keep your feet warm and dry.

As a photographer, winter shoots tend to be different from other seasons as you can expect to take breaks. Especially when the cold can become unbearable for an extended period of time. What Locations to Expect Open in the Winter

One thing to note is that not many locations are available or open in Glacier National Park during winter. However, this doesn’t mean that you can’t capture stunning photos. Weather permitting, the Going-to-the-Sun Road from West Glacier to Lake McDonald Lodge is plowed and open year-round. The most popular winter location in the park is Lake McDonald. The location offers a unique backdrop that can create stunning photos that you will cherish forever.
