Out of State Wedding Planning

Planning a Wedding from Out of State: A San Diego Bride’s Journey to a Northwest Montana Wedding

Planning a wedding is no small feat, but planning a wedding from out of state can add a unique set of challenges and excitement. For one bride from San Diego, her journey led her to the beautiful Star Meadows Ranch. This picturesque venue not only caught her eye but also played a pivotal role in her wedding planning process.

The bride, along with her husband, embarked on this exciting adventure with a 7-month-old daughter and their beloved husky/golden retriever mix named Brooks. The family-oriented couple envisioned a wedding that was intimate, personal, and filled with candid moments, which is where I came in.

Finding the Perfect Venue

The bride and groom were initially drawn to the stunning landscapes of Northwest Montana. Their search led them to Star Meadows Ranch, a venue known for its breathtaking views and rustic charm. It was the perfect choice for their 75-person wedding.

The venue’s staff recognized my photography style and recommended me as their wedding photographer. It’s always a privilege to be recommended by such a prestigious venue. Truly, an honor to be part of their big day.

The Big Day

With a beautiful backdrop and a lovely day ahead, the couple’s wedding was magical. They wanted their photos to reflect the natural, unscripted joy of their celebration, emphasizing candid shots over posed ones. This preference allowed us to capture genuine moments of laughter, love, and connection. Their daughter, only seven months old, added a touch of innocence and charm to the occasion. Brooks, their energetic husky + golden retriever mix, was also a star of the day! His playful spirit made its way into numerous photos!

The Beauty of Candid Photography

Candid photography captures the essence of the moment—the spontaneous smiles, unexpected laughter, and genuine interactions. This approach allowed us to tell the couple’s story authentically, showcasing their personalities and the love they share. Also captured is the love they have for their family and friends who attended the wedding. The photos from their wedding day are a testament to the beauty of unscripted moments! Where every picture tells a story.

Tips for Out-of-State Wedding Planning

  • Choose a Trustworthy Venue: Opt for a venue with a good reputation and reliable staff who can assist with local recommendations.
  • Hire Local Vendors: Local vendors, including photographers, caterers, and florists, are familiar with the area and can provide valuable insights and services.
  • Plan a Visit: If possible, visit the venue at least once before the wedding to finalize details and meet your vendors in person.
  • Leverage Technology: I know this may sound obvious, but, use video calls, emails, and planning apps to stay in constant communication with your vendors and to keep track of your planning process.
